Create new Tasks via Raycast

Learn how to create new Tasks from your Mac desktop with the Reclaim extension for Raycast through the Create Task and Quick Task commands.

Updated over a week ago

Once you have the Reclaim extension for Raycast installed (learn how to get set up here), you can quickly create new Tasks to auto-schedule to your calendar right from your Mac desktop.

Creating a new Task via Raycast schedules it as a smart calendar event the same way it would through the Reclaim app. There are two options to create Tasks through Raycast.

New Task with 'Create Task' command in Raycast

The 'Create Task' command lets you fill out a form with the standard rules for Reclaim to get a new Task scheduled on your calendar. (Learn more about how Reclaim schedules Tasks here.)

  1. Pull up your Reclaim commands by opening Raycast on your desktop (⌥ Space) and select the 'Create Task' command. This will open a form for your new Task with fields for:

  • Title (task name)

  • Priority (the priority level of the Task)

  • Time needed (duration)

  • Duration min (the minimum amount of time you want to work on the Task)

  • Duration max (the maximum amount of time you want to work on the Task)

  • Hours (which of your Hours you want the Task to schedule during)

  • Starting (how soon to start scheduling)

  • Due (due date for Task)

  • Notes (supports markdown formatting)

  • Send to Up Next (whether the Task should be added to your Up Next list)

2. Fill out the details of your Task.

3. Click Submit Form in the bottom right (or ⌘ Enter) to get the Task automatically scheduled in your calendar.

A link to your new Task will be copied to your clipboard once created.

New Task with 'Quick Task' command in Raycast

You can also create a Task with the 'Quick Task' command by writing it out in this format:

[TYPE work/personal] task [TASK NAME] (for [duration], by [due date], snooze [NOT BEFORE])

The TYPE and TASK NAME are required to create a new Task. The additional text in the parenthesis are optional. Refer to Tasks overview for a description of each field.

An example Task would look like: work task Prep board slides (for 4h, by 10am Monday, snooze 1hr)

  1. Write out your Task details in the top bar.

  2. Click on Create: 'Task' in the bottom right (or Enter).

  3. Open the generated Task to see the populated Task form.

  4. Click Submit Form in the bottom right (or ⌘ Enter) to get the Task automatically scheduled in your calendar.

A link to your new Task will be copied to your clipboard once created.
