How RSVP affects Calendar Sync events, and how to manage it

Reclaim automatically updates your availability based on your RSVP status for synced events from Calendar Sync. Here's how it works.

Updated over 3 months ago

Reclaim responds to different RSVP statuses on synced events from Calendar Sync to prevent your calendar from being filled up with events that you might not attend. This doc will cover how RSVP statuses work on synced events from Calendar Sync by default as well as to fine-tune your settings for them.

RSVP statuses and how they affect your availability

By default, Reclaim will set synced events to either free or busy based on your RSVP status. Here's a breakdown of the three different states.

No RSVP has been made

  • The event will be synced to the target calendar.

  • The event is marked as Free πŸ†“ so others will see this time slot as available. Refer to Free and Busy time for more details.

RSVP is "Yes" or "Maybe"

  • The event will be synced to the target calendar.

  • The event will be marked as Busy and will show as unavailable to others who want to book time with you.

RSVP is "No"

  • The synced copy will be removed from the target calendar.

Events that you organized, but aren't listed as an attendee

In rare cases (typically via using scheduling platforms like Calendly) it's possible to be the organizer of an event but still not be listed as an attendee.

In these cases, Reclaim will sync the source event but will assume that you are Busy instead of keeping the source event Free.

What if I want to change this?

We generally believe that Yes + Maybe tend to be enough of a signal to justify blocking the time off as busy, and that No is a pretty clear signal that the time shouldn't be blocked. But for some users, we recognize that No RSVP could go either way.

You can adjust your setting for synced events with no RSVP from your Settings, as shown below:

The default is the same as the behavior listed above – No RSVP will result in a synced event marked free. But you can override it to show No RSVP events as busy. This is especially helpful if you're using Calendar Sync for a lot of calendars and don't want to have to worry about RSVPing to events or are concerned about getting overbooked.
