Stay consistent with routines using ‘Habits’

Set up a Lunch Habit in Reclaim to automatically make space for a consistent, flexible break each day.

Updated yesterday

👋 Welcome to Reclaim Learning Labs! Learn by doing with these guided exercises — so log in to your Planner and let’s get started.

Habits are smart routines that find the best time in your schedule for regular activities like lunch, workouts, or email catchup. Today’s lab will help you experience how Habits work in action.

How to create a Lunch Habit

  1. Click Habits in the left navigation

  2. Click Templates in the top navigation and choose the Lunch habit

  3. Tell Reclaim when and how you like to take lunch by setting hours, an ideal time, and the duration for the Habit

  4. Click Save

  5. Navigate to the Reclaim Planner or your calendar. Identify Lunch events for this week and next

💡 Pro tip: Habits will appear as free 🆓 time to others until your schedule starts to fill up, & then automatically flip to busy 🛡️ to ensure you have the time defended. Reclaim does this in order to maintain maximum availability, until the time in which you’re at risk of running out of options to complete your habit. The full help article can be found here.

How to lock your Lunch

You can ensure that Habit events are seen as busy to your colleagues and that Reclaim will no longer reschedule them with the manual Lock action.

Locking from the Reclaim Planner

  1. From the Reclaim Planner, control-click on a “free” Lunch event and select Lock.

  2. From your Google or Outlook calendar, schedule an event that conflicts with your locked Lunch event.

  3. Verify that your locked Lunch habit doesn’t get automatically rescheduled by Reclaim.

  4. From the Reclaim Planner, context-click on the locked Lunch event and select Unlock and see it reschedule.

Locking from your Calendar (for Google users)

  1. If you haven’t yet, go ahead and install the Google Calendar Add-on .

  2. From Google Calendar, click the Google Calendar Add-on so that the Reclaim panel is showing side-by-side with your calendar.

  3. Single-click on a Lunch habit event.

  4. Click the Lock icon in the Reclaim Add-on.

  5. Verify that the Lunch event is now displaying with a Lock emoji 🔒 (this can take up to 30 seconds).

💡 Pro tip: Manually moving an event from the Planner or your calendar will also result in that event being locked as Reclaim honors this change as your preferred time for the event.
